Board Treasurer — Self-Determination Tech Alliance (volunteer officer, about 4–6 hours a month)

Applications: Close: July 26, 2026
The Self-Determination Tech Alliance (SDTA) is a small California nonprofit. We build free tools and programs for the developmental disability community. Our main program, DAN, is a free navigation program that helps families and self-advocates understand Regional Center services, in English and Spanish.
We are growing from a founders' board into an independent board, and we are looking for a Treasurer who is independent of the founders to lead our finances.
What you would do
- Oversee the organization's money: review the books, bank statements, and reconciliations.
- Present clear financial reports at quarterly board meetings.
- Lead the analysis that sets fair, market-based pay for the organization's leaders. (The founders step out of those votes.)
- Make sure state and federal filings happen on time.
- Help set simple, sound money policies for a young organization.
What you bring
- Accounting or finance experience. A CPA or similar background is preferred.
- Independence: you are not a relative of the founders and are not paid by SDTA.
- Plain talk about money. Our board materials are written in plain language on purpose.
- A connection to the disability community is a plus. People with lived experience in the developmental disability community are warmly encouraged to apply.
What we offer
- A first term of six months, with a review that goes both ways — you review us too. Renewal is the expectation when it's working.
- Directors and officers insurance is in place.
- This is a volunteer position. SDTA will pay you a stipend for each meeting, plus your costs.
- A small board (five seats) where your judgment is visible and genuinely load-bearing.
- The chance to set up an organization's finances right from the start, instead of cleaning them up later.
Time: about 4–6 hours a month, more in filing months. Board meetings are quarterly and remote-friendly.
