We are looking for new Board of Director Members

We are looking for a self-advocate to join our board of directors, with a full vote.

Who we are. SDTA is a small California nonprofit. We make free tools for the developmental disability community. Our main program is DAN. DAN helps families and self-advocates understand Regional Center services. It is free, and it works in English and Spanish.

This seat is real power, not just advice.

• You vote on how the organization spends its money.
• You vote on what the founders get paid. (They leave the room for that vote.)
• You vote on the big decisions about where the organization goes.
• You can put any topic on the meeting agenda.

Who we are looking for.

• You are an adult with a developmental disability.
• You live in California.
• You know the Regional Center world — as a client, or through the Self-Determination Program. (You do not need to be in SDP.)
• You speak up for yourself, and you want to do it inside the room where decisions happen.

How we support you.

• All board papers come in plain language. That is our normal way of working, for everyone.
• We will walk through the materials with you before each meeting, if you want.
• You are welcome to bring a support person.
• This is a volunteer position. SDTA will pay you a stipend for each meeting, plus your costs. If you get SSI or Medi-Cal, we will work with you and a benefits counselor so the stipend does not cause problems. You can also choose to say no to the stipend.
• Meetings are four times a year and remote-friendly. Plan on about 2 hours a month in total.

Your first term is six months. At the end, you tell us how we did, and we talk about continuing. We expect to continue when it's working.
